GRAND FORKS AIR CADET ATTENDS SPORTS WEEKEND
Air Cadet Colton Rooke from Grand Forks was at the Kootenay Cadet Sports Weekend held at Selkirk College in Castlegar on the weekend of 27-29 January 2017.
The Sports weekend had 160 cadets from 12 cadet units from the East and West Kootenays. During the weekend, the cadets did a fitness assessment, team sports, swimming and orienteering.
Rooke has been with the Grand Forks Air Cadet squadron for almost 2 years. He lives in Grand Forks and attends the Grand Forks Secondary School.
Last Summer Colton attended the General Training Summer Training Course in Albert Head, BC. This summer, he hopes to attend the Survival Instructors Course.
Rooke enjoys meeting new friends and going on the Field Training Exercises with the cadets. He says it is a fun after school activity.
The Cadet program, which include Sea, Army and Air Cadets, is the largest government funded youth program in Canada with over 50,000 participants across Canada.
The cadet program accepts youth between the ages of 12-18 who have a desire to learn more about the air element of the Canadian Forces, wish to develop the attributes of leadership and good citizenship and who wish to promote physical fitness.
While the program is military based, there is no obligation for a cadet to join the Canadian Armed Forces.
