August 8th, 2014

Taking place August 9 & 10, from 10 am – 5 pm, the Columbia Basin Culture Tour allows you to explore artists’ studios, museums, art galleries and heritage sites during this free, self-guided event. Travel to studios and archives that aren’t normally open, see demonstrations, new exhibitions and collections or meet people behind the scenes. To participate in the tour, simply grab a map, your Culture Tour Directory and go!

gallery 2 in Grand Forks prides itself on presenting a diverse assortment of contemporary art exhibitions including selections from its own collection. The heritage galleries provide a permanent pictorial heritage display presenting an overview of the history of Grand Forks and region as well as shorter-term site-designed and travelling exhibitions. The exhibitions that will be featured during this year’s Culture Tour are: “A Photographer’s Eye – landscapes and architecture” by Bob Morton, “Boundaries” by Leora Gesser and “Murmuration” by Joanne Circle, featuring works inspired by the phenomenon where “thousands of birds spontaneously come together in flight creating an ephemeral form that soon breathes into another expanding form.  In & out, in & out.  The individual birds do not collide… NASA studies attribute this phenomenon of group flight without colliding to each bird’s awareness of 7 adjacent birds.”

Visit Christina Lake Arts and Artisans Society, Arts on 3 Gallery that features local and international artists who produce exquisite works in many mediums, including silver, hand blown glass and torch work, wood carving and turnings, paintings of all different media, pottery, and many native offerings. The Living Arts Centre invites you to stay and have a bite at Lisa’s Bistro, marvel at the 3D floor mural, explore the interpretive displays and to wander through the Nature Park, maybe jumping into the lake for a refreshing dip.

Tour brochures are available at tourist information centres and participating venues. Visit the website at www.cbculturetour.com to view full artist/venue profiles for further details on each location’s activities or register to receive a tour brochure in the mail.
