Election candidates have stood up and put their names forward

Candidate names are in for the Boundary region, and these are the results. 

Grand Forks

In Grand Forks there are five mayoral candidates, two familiar names and three new faces. Incumbent Mayor Brian Taylor has put his name forward again and current councillor Cher Wyers is also throwing her hat in for the role of mayor. Peter Demski, Frank Konrad and Donna Semenoff are also running.

For councillors, Grand Forks has 16 candidates willing to fill six positions. Gary Smith, Neil Krog, Michael Wirischagin and Patrick O’Doherty are all running again. Former councillor Christine Thompson is also stepping back into the ring. New faces include Julia Butler, Lorraine Dick, Zak Eburne-Stoodley, Richard Fausten, Chris Hammett, Cathy Korolek, Baun Mark, Larry Podmoroff, Colleen Ross, Teresa Taylor, and Monique Van Ewyk.

Greenwood

In Greenwood, there are three mayoral candidates. Incumbent Nipper Kettle is running again, and councillor Barry Noll has stepped up for the roll of mayor. Ed Smith is letting his name stand.

For Greenwood councillors, there are five candidates for four positions. Darla Ashton, Lee Cudworth and Colleen Lang are all running again and so are newcomers Nola Tutti and Christopher Yates.

Midway

In Midway, Randy Kappes is the unopposed returning mayor as no other candidates ran against him.

There are six candidates putting their names forward for the four available council seats. Incumbent councillors Richard Dunsdon, Darrin Metcalf, Marguerite Rotvold and Gary Schierbeck are all running again. So is Martin Fromme, who has previously served as a councillor and newcomer Earl Lehmann.

RDKB

In the Regional District of Kootenay Boundary (RDKB), Ali Grieve – Area A, Beaver Valley — and Grace McGregor – Area C, Christina Lake – reclaim their seats by acclimation.

There are three candidates for Area D (Rural Grand Forks): Bob Kendel (current Grand Forks councillor), Irene Perepolkin (incumbent) and Roly Russell, who was the alternate area D director during the last term.

In Area E – Boundary Country and Big White – there are another three candidates. Incumbent Bill Baird is running again and is challenged by Bill Bosovich and Vicki Gee, who is finishing her term as a School District 51 (SD51) trustee.

SD51

For SD51, there are 10 candidates for seven trustee positions. Incumbents that are rerunning include Cindy Strukoff(Christina Lake), David Reid (Area D), Rose Zitko (Kettle Valley North), Cathy Riddle (Kettle Valley East), Kenneth Harshenin (Grand Forks) and Teresa Rezansoff (Grand Forks). Valeria Alice Rich (Area D), Mark Danyluk (Kettle Valley West), Katie Jepson (Grand Forks) and Jaime Massey (Grand Forks) have also thrown their hats in the ring. Strukoff, Zitko, Danyluk and are unopposed for Area C, and Kettle Valley North, East and West in Area E. 

All information is from the CivicInfo BC Election Reporting System. Candidates had until Friday to submit their application for candidacy. They have until Oct. 17 at 4 p.m. to withdraw.
