Bruins claw way to top spot in Murdoch Division

The Grand Forks Border Bruins had the offence running all cylinders as the Boundary City squad scored 13 goals in two Kootenay International Junior Hockey League games to move into sole possession of top spot in the Murdoch Division.

The Bruins exploded for three goals in the latter part of the game to double Castlegar Rebels 6-3 Friday in the Sunflower City.

Saturday, the Bruins scored four times on the power play in a span of seven minute to rout Columbia Valley Rockies 7-2.

Grand Forks, 5-2-1, and winners of four straight games, now lead Beaver Valley by one point in Murdoch standings.

Saturday at home, the Rockies kept taking penalties and the Bruins just kept scoring as Grand Forks broke open a close game.

Trey Mason and Jordan Robertson each scored twice while Donte Nowell, Yoan Rodrigue and Dylan Haney added singles.

Haney finished the game with four points while Chad Grambo had three.

Anthony Galliart, fresh from serving a suspension, stopped 33 of 35 shots to register the victory in goal.

Friday, the sonic boom heard over Castlegar was the Bruins offence exploding for three goals to snap a 3-3 tie against the Rebels.

Conner Brennan started the assault before Brady Berger and Johrdan Robertson added insurance.

Garrett Brisebois, Silas Johnson and Grambo added singles for the Bruins which were outshot 37-31 by Castlegar.

Tyler Loura was in goal for Grand Forks.

The Bruins travel to Creston Friday to face the Thunder Cats before returning home Saturday to host Fernie Ghostriders. Game time at the Grand Forks Arena is 7 p.m.
