The preliminary results are in and, so far, it appears that Rossland has returned three incumbent councillors while also electing three fresh faces. According to figures from Civic Info BC, this is the breakdown so far:

PROFILE: Irene Perepolkin, regional area D candidate

1.       Please give a brief summary of who you are and why you have decided to run for office.

I am seeking re-election as Regional District of the Kootenay Boundary director of area D for a second term. I am confident in having acquired enough knowledge of the practices and procedures of regional government to be able to put that knowledge to use. I have worked hard to receive a certificate (level one) from the Local Government Leadership Academy and am very close to completing the second level.

I am a lifelong resident of Grand Forks and have been an active volunteer for as long as I can remember. I've spent countless hours donating my sound equipment and skills to help create the concerts, plays and events that bring joy to the community. I am committed to our beautiful city. Now I want to take this passion and love to the next level.

My name is Everett Baker and I am the owner of Grand Forks Funeral Home and Cremation Center. I have been married to Deborah for 30 years and have three grown children Christine – Ann (David); Aaron (Chelsea); Hannah (Adam); and 3 beautiful grand-children: Brooklyn, Kara and Cassius. I decided to run for council because as a businessman this allows me to give back to my city.

 In the nearly eight years I have lived in Grand Forks (seven of them at my current address in the city) I have involved myself in numerous aspects of community life.  Aside from starting my own business, I have worked on the Art Gallery Board, the Boundary Air Quality Committee, the Boundary Musical & Theatre Society, the River's Edge Theatre Society, and I have been a Volunteer Firefighter/First Responder for more than five years.

I am a native of Grand Forks who grew up on a farm that brought health, strong work ethics and priceless experiences with my family. Consequently, I currently own my childhood hobby farm, a successful business and I’ve been a health practitioner for over twenty-two years.

We have many challenges facing us both locally and around the world.  My name is Jocelyn W. Cowie, my goal as a city councillor would be to implement a local sustainability plan. Many townships have developed successful theme villages that not only increase tourist traffic but also boost local economies create new jobs and bring exciting new businesses to the area.

I moved to Grand Forks in March 2005 from White Rock, B.C. to care for my aging mother. I purchased property, built a home and two small businesses. I have lived across the province in both large and small communities and prefer the quality of life of smaller communities.  I have two daughters and two grandchildren in Vancouver.  
 
I quickly became involved in Grand Forks through volunteerism.

Hello my name is Neil Krog and I am seeking a seat on Council. My wife Andrea and I passed through Grand Forks on our honeymoon 23 years ago. We liked the community so much that we, along with our family, moved here in 1988.
 
I am a first aid and safety instructor for Selkirk College, I also own Twisted Forks Catering. My reason for running is that I want to see the city move forward and feel that with my experience I can help.

My name is Dave (David) Grootjes and I am excited about the opportunity to run in our upcoming School Board 51 election of trustees. I have been a resident of the Boundary area (Grand Forks) since August of 2005. I am married to my wonderful wife Kat and we together have two boys Dante and Thijs.

I have lived in Grand Forks for the past 37 years and raised my family here. I have worked in education for the past 40 years, as a school teacher, as vice-president and president of the Teacher’s Association and most recently as a trustee for the Board of Education (School District 51).

My name is Michael Wirischagin and I am a third-generation Grand Forks resident who was born and raised within this wonderful little community. Other than for a short time when I left to attend the University of British Columbia (UBC) in Vancouver - where I studied Urban Geography (City Planning) and Political Science - I have resided within the city limits my entire life. I am married and have three children, including our newest addition, 10-month-old Solara.

My name is Teresa Rezansoff; I am a married parent to four children and have lived in Grand Forks for over 20 years. I am running for trustee because I care deeply about the outcomes for our children.

I am 65-years-old and my family and I have spent most of our lives in Southern BC. I own a small farm on Spencer Hill and have a long term commitment to this community. Over my working life I have worked primarily with groups.
 
In the six years that I have spent as mayor I recognize the role of mayor is to make the democratic system work at the table with 6 councillors who all are leaders and have individual hopes and dreams.

My name is Ann Gordon. I have lived in Grand Forks for 14 years. Running for mayor requires an individual with municipal government experience. I feel that a new approach as to how the City is serving the residents is required. I think I can deliver that. I have no personal agenda.

Since I moved to Grand Forks in 1996, I’ve found the Boundary lifestyle and attitude to be a refreshing change from the Okanagan, where I was raised. Although I’ve left to travel and go to school, the Boundary is home to me.
 
Like many people, I’ve thought over the limitations facing the region, lack of choice for education and employment in particular.

My name is Sally Garcelon and I have lived at Christina Lake for 35 years. I graduated from McGill University in 1972.  All five of my children attended Christina Lake Elementary School and Grand Forks Secondary School. For the past nine years I have been the School Trustee for Christina Lake. As a member of the Board, I have worked hard to ensure that all the schools in our district’s communities remain open.

Hello Grand Forks. Who is Bob Kendel? I was born and raised in small town Saskatchewan. After high school I attended trade school and achieved journeyman status in several trades. My wife and I are blessed with three grandsons five, three and newborn.

Grand Forks was my family’s destination fifteen years ago to establish my husband’s general aviation business. After researching airports around the province, we found that the local airport provided close proximity to user-friendly border crossings, excellent facilities and a remarkable community to support our outdoor recreational lifestyle.

I am seeking election as a School Trustee of Christina Lake “Area C” in the Boundary. I have lived in Christina Lake for 10 years with my husband and three children. I have volunteered at my children’s schools for over 13 years as well as the District Parent Advisory Council.
