Do want to prepare yourself for a new job? Now is the perfect time to learn new skills during this time of self-isolation, physical distancing, and layoffs.

Kootenay Career Development Society’s free virtual RAFT program can help prepare you to find meaningful work in the retail, accommodation, food service and tourism sectors.

What you get:  virtual group and individual learning focused on identifying your skills and strengths, determining your goals, helping you craft your resume and building interview and other relevant skills. You could also get access to certifications such as SuperHost, WHIMS, Foodsafe, Serving it Right and First Aid.

The details:
The program consists of 5 weeks of virtual in-class training, Monday to Thursday, followed by one-on-one follow up individual support to help you get the job you want.

The training days will be a mix of skills training (conflict resolution, effective communication, interview skills, Microsoft Word, customer service, and online platforms), self-exploration (personality and career assessments), labour market research, (employer visits) and certifications.

Skills and Qualifications Required:

  • Interested in working in the service sector (retail, accommodation, food
  • industry (kitchen or serving), or tourism
  • Eligible to work in Canada
  •  Not attending school full time
  • Access to a computer and a reliable internet connection
