Premier Christy Clark has issued the following statement following an explosion in Boston:

"Our immediate thoughts and prayers go out to the families of those killed and injured by today's terrible explosion near the finish line of the Boston Marathon.

"While we don't have full details, it's clear that first responders are to be commended for their quick and professional actions.

RCMP say computer scam making its way to East Kootenays

The latest scam affecting many Canadians has popped up in the East Kootenays.

RCMP in Kimberley and Cranbrook have received reports from residents that have been locked out of their computer.

The scammers send a pop-up message which often has a photo of the owner, taken by their own computer, stating that their computer has been frozen by police for a criminal investigation.

Culprits return more items from Johnsons Landing thefts

Kaslo RCMP Cpl. Shaun Begg says yet more of the property stolen during Break and Enters involving 4 unoccupied buildings in the Johnson's Landing slide area has shown up, this time on the front steps of a local church. Other property, believed to have been stolen from residences in an area still deemed to be unstable from an earlier fatal mudslide some eight months ago, turned up about three weeks ago, piled neatly at the side of an area road.

The BC Coroners Service confirmed identity of deceased male found last month near the mouth of Cottonwood Creekin Nelson as 27-year-old Seron Capell Beattie.

Nelson Police Chief Constable Wayne Holland said Beattie was from the Kootenay region and had been in Nelson for only a few days.

The Coroners Service and Nelson City Police continue to investigate this death but have all but ruled out foul play in the death of Beattie.

Beattie's family has been notified of his death.

Two charged in Castlegar arsons

Two people have been charged with arson in relation to two fires that destroyed a van and a church in Castlegar last week, according to RCMP Inspector Nick Romanchuk.

“18-year-old Lee Wilding of Castlegar and a 16-year-old Castlegar female have been charged,” he said, adding he can't name the female because of her age.

City Police shut down drug trafficking house in Nelson

Nelson Police executed a search warrant on a drug trafficking house on Carbonate Street Thursday (March 28), shutting down the operation in fast order.

The warrant was served following a long, involved investigation into drugs being dealt from the residence in the 900 block of Carbonate Street.

Arrested and charged with drug trafficking and possession charges along with weapons related charges is 61-year-old Francis Dukart.

Dukart remains is custody with an expected court date Tuesday (April 2).

On March 28 at 10:08 a.m., Castlegar fire department received a call reporting a garage fire in the 300 Block of 7 Avenue in Castlegar.
Castlegar Fire Department and Police responded to the scene. A detached garage was fully engulfed in flames. The owner was located and did not receive any injuries. No one was inside the garage.

Investigators looking into the 2 suspicious fires have now confirmed that the Church and Vehicle fires were deliberately set. This act is a serious occurrence at anytime of the year but especially disturbing with the Easter Season soon to be upon us.
 

Castlegar RCMP begin investigation into two suspicious fires

Castlegar RCMP and Fire Dept have commenced investigation into two suspicious fires which occurred Monday night in the Sunflower City.

The fires were called in at 2230 and 2255 hours to Castlegar RCMP and Castlegar Fire Dept.

The first fire reported involved a parked vehicle found engulfed in flames in the parking lot of the Kinnaird Community Church in the 1200 block of 26th Street.
