PROFILE: Brian Johnson, Area D

1. Please give a brief summary of who you are and why you have decided to run for office.

I am a native of Grand Forks who grew up on a farm that brought health, strong work ethics and priceless experiences with my family. Consequently, I currently own my childhood hobby farm, a successful business and I’ve been a health practitioner for over twenty-two years.
While residing in Grand Forks for over forty years, I believe no other community can compete with the holistic nature of Area D and its geographical position in Canada. I want to preserve our clean environment, facilitate the expansion of agriculture to a level that self sustains the community and protect our twin river valley playground. In my business, I facilitate hundreds of people to enhance or maintain a healthy lifestyle. With a lateral shift in my expertise, directing Area D would unlock the opportunity to enrich the lives of thousands instead of just hundreds of residents.

2. What is your background? Have you held office before? If not what skills do you bring to the job if you are elected?

I have not held any official public position before; however by owning a limited company (Flexus Body Systems Ltd.), I have experience in being a Director on a smaller scale. I am a great organizer, understand accounting practices, speak with public attentively and research issues completely before making a holistic decision. I am sensitive to the needs of people, choose to be proactive and look out of the box to find new considerations.

3. What do you think are the top three challenges facing the city/region/school district in the upcoming term?

The aquifer, agriculture and efficient tax dollar investments would be my top three choices. Once elected, I will need to complete or modify current mandates while simultaneously easing into exciting new projects.

4. How do you think you can impact these challenges?

I embrace challenges because they instantly magnify personal growth. My first step in any challenge is to gather information from all sides, decide the level of importance, prioritize, network with relevant parties, create an action plan, and then follow it through to completion. I believe completing this full cycle approach builds evidence, confidence and energy for the next upcoming project. “Fail to plan then plan to fail”, is my favourite mantra. I’ve recognized and accepted the causes of many of my failures in order to believe this mantra and continue to grow successfully.

5. If you could describe yourself in three words what would they be?

Intuitive, proactive and motivated.

 6. Other comments that you feel are important to the voter.

I believe Area D deserves to be run like an efficiently organized network. Like the stock market, Area D residents have shares in the land, however, we have the choice to increase the value of our shares or let them diminish for our descendants. As a steward of the land, I would help to increase the sense of value to our ecological resources, market our strong agricultural foundation, preserve our peace loving lifestyles and improve health and prosperity for all residents of Area D.

Healthfully,
Brian Johnson
