Please give a brief summary of whom you are and why you have decided to run for office.
Born and raised in rural Saskatchewan grew up in small towns near our family farm and spent my school years working on ours and neighbours farms. I have been married for 34 years and have three grandsons ages eight, six and three.
What is your background? Have you held office before? What skills do you bring to the job if you are elected?
I have been an entrepreneur for most of my adult life. I have had several successful businesses both past and present. We moved to Grand Forks eight years ago to semi retire and enjoy the lifestyle of the region.
I have been involved for the most part in the heating and air-conditioning industry for the past 40 years and continue to operate a small business here in Grand Forks. In 2012 I put my name forward for a seat on city council and was elected.
The past three years have made me appreciate how difficult but also how rewarding serving in civic politics can be. I have applied my skills in business to move forward on many initiatives in the city, As chair of the Economic Development Advisory Committee our group was able to bring forward a new City brand ,new entrance signs, promotional videos, downtown revitalization and finally the provincial award for our "Open for Business" initiatives.
I am an idea person, able to show leadership and instill a vision for success.
What do you think are the top three challenges facing the city/region/school district in the upcoming term?
- Continue on the path of economic development both agriculturally and commercially
- To make working together with the city and our other regional partners a priority
- To continue to lobby the province to maintain or increase the level of healthcare in our area
How do you plan on addressing these challenges?
Leadership ,These challenges are not ones easily remedied however the only way forward is to respect the past but have the political will to move forward, We need to be innovative ,use our political relationships and have a well thought out plan for our future.
If you could describe yourself in three words what would they be?
Committed, resourceful and creative
What is the one thing that makes you stand out as a candidate? (or) What is the one thing you want people to know about you?
I have no personal agenda other than working for the best interests of our community.
