Defence lawyer for accused murderer Kimberley Ruth Noyes, 42, requested they skip a preliminary hearing and move forward with setting a trial date at the next appearance. Noyes was represented by attorney Deanne Gaffar via telephone conference in Nelson on Wednesday, Dec. 2 where the request was issued during the latest court date.

Two years after a B.C. man was gunned down while protecting his $1-million marijuana grow-op, charges have been laid against two people, say RCMP.
Timothy Niven Tyler, 50, was found by his wife in September 2008 after he was shot on his Beaverdell acreage, about 70 kilometres south of Kelowna.
 
"He was involved in outdoor marijuana grow operations on his property and it is believed he was killed while trying to protect his crop from being robbed," said RCMP Cpl.

Branding the Boundary is the topic du jour locally and it should be. The area has been in a state of flux for sometime with no real identity coming to the forefront as the area hovers in limbo. The "Sunshine and Borscht" sign has faded into oblivion and been replaced by a gaping hole in the frame that remains. It's a somewhat fitting sight, this vacant frame, as the area is confusingly called "The Boundary" or "Boundary Country."

Finance Minister Colin Hansen stood before the cameras this week and told British Columbians he had no idea his own Finance Ministry officials were holding extensive discussions with federal counterparts in Ottawa on the HST in March, 2009 … a few months before the provincial election.

“I was actually surprised when I read through this just how much back and forth there is at the officials level,” Hansen told reporters Wednesday.
